How Dog Trainer Certification Can Up-Level Your Career
Why should I care about what letters come after my dog trainers’ name?
It’s just a dog trainer, not a brain surgeon…
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that most of us have been to a doctor at some point in our lives. Fair enough? I’m also going to say that we put some thought into finding that doctor…or if you didn’t, you trusted your insurance company to do it for you. One way or another, the doctor that you picked to be your personal care-taker has jumped through some pretty high hoops to get where they are. And this is good…we like this. We put some level of trust in them, knowing what it takes to get those two letters after their name.
Now, I know you are still thinking, “well, of course I care about my doctor’s credentials but not my dog trainers…anyone can be a dog trainer.” Really? Au contraire my friend! It takes a very special person to successfully work with a being that communicates in a language most of us do not speak. To take a dog from being a “pet” to becoming an “awesome family member” is a feat in itself!
If it were easy, we could all do it. We all WOULD do it…if it were easy. We would all have perfectly behaved animals who never caused us any worry or stress. So, why don’t we? Perhaps it’s not that easy. Those letters after a dog trainers name do matter. They matter a lot!
Take a look at this article published by APDT (The Association of Professional Dog Trainers) for some explanations of all the letters behind a dog trainers name.
