Dog Trainer Mike Brand tells why working with problem behavior dogs is the most rewarding part of his job. Working with canine problem behaviors is a passion that was originally motivated out of curiosity. Beginning with my own dog, I started to ask myself, why? Why is my dog so excited all the time? Why does she pull on the leash? Why does she growl at other dogs? It’s the question that sparked my passion to observe and work with dogs who exhibit problem behaviors ranging from jumping on people, pulling on walks to real aggression. My first dog, an American Eskimo named Freeway, was reactive from the beginning. Our most recent adopted Chihuahua/Terrier mix Bo and Norwegian Elkhound, Ruby; were also lunging, barking, and pulling when walking on leash when they encountered other dogs. I have lived, loved, and worked with reactive dogs most of my life, and I enjoy the challenge of giving them a better life. It is proven success in this area that drives me to be the best trainer I can be, using positive science based techniques. The dogs and the families are happier and more fulfilled when this is no longer an issue or deterrent to taking a walk in the neighborhood or a park. I very much enjoy watching the process of pet parent and dog forming a stronger bond using the user-friendly techniques and appropriate equipment that I introduce to them. The ultimate goal for both is to have a rich, fun, full life together. – Mike Brand Learn more about Mike here Learn more about our classes at AZ Dog Smart Academy here.
